Indian Railways has approved the implementation of the indigenous Automatic Train Protection system Kavach 4.0 on the remaining 712 Route Kilometers (Rkm) of rail sections within the Moradabad Division of Northern Railway. Under this project, costing approximately ₹170 crore, the modern safety system will be installed on the identified rail routes, helping to make train operations safer.
The implementation of Kavach 4.0 will strengthen the railway’s safety infrastructure in these areas and provide an additional, advanced safety shield during operations.
Enhancing Railway Safety Through Indigenous Kavach Technology
Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system aimed at making railway operations safer and more efficient. The technology helps prevent trains from Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), automatically applies brakes when required, and regulates train speed during critical situations, thereby significantly reducing the risk of collisions. As part of Indian Railways’ ongoing modernization efforts, the deployment of Kavach is being expanded across the railway network alongside upgrades to signaling infrastructure and train safety systems.
